So during the lockdown we’re trying to fill the internet with Superhero, or at least comic book related cocktails. Here’s our Wonder Woman Daiquiri, with a BIG hit of Vanilla, thanks to Old J Silver Spiced!
The History of Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character is a founding member of the Justice League. The character first appeared in All Star Comics #8 in October 194 with her first feature in Sensation Comics #1 in January 1942. The Wonder Woman title has been published by DC Comics almost continuously except for a brief hiatus in 1986. In her homeland, the island nation of Themyscira, her official title is Princess Diana of Themyscira. When blending into the society outside of her homeland, she sometimes adopts her civilian identity Diana Prince.Wikipedia
Because of Wonder Woman’s roots in the 1940s, I looked into what kind of cocktails were popular at the time, and post prohibition the Daiquiri was king. This was of course before Cuban tensions in the coming Cold War.
I decided to use the vanilla rum to keep the recipe nice and simple, still using just the three ingredients. Simple drinks are quick and efficient to make behind the bar and keep the focus on hospitality, not procedure.
Vanilla Daiquiri Recipe
Normally I’d follow the 4:2:1 ratio for this but as the Old J Silver is pretty sweet with its vanilla forward notes, I’ve reduced the simple syrup accordingly. If you don’t have access to Old J Silver, you can use a regular white rum and switch the simple syrup for 15ml (½oz) of Vanilla syrup instead. Perfect for Princess Diana!
