The Last Word Cocktail is one of the most current, and ironically classic cocktails on the market right now. Following the current trend of resurrecting pre-prohibition drinks, The Last Word Cocktail is one of those drinks that would have been untouched even if it was on cocktail menus for years, yet in the past few the public has started to embrace the classics and is rejecting bland and overly sweet drinks that they craved in the 90s and early 2000s.

I love the sharp, pungent drinks, and this has a good bite. It’s a great palate cleanser. And it’s perfectly balanced: A little sour, a little sweet, a little pungent. — Audrey Saunders, The Seattle Times

History of The Last Word Cocktail

Created in the 1920s, The Last Word was first served in the Detroit Athletic Club but was never published until Ted Saucer’s 1951 Bottoms Up. The drink then all but disappeared until this century, being rediscovered by Murray Stenson in 2004, and made its place in the Mr Boston guide of 2009.
