Larios Rose Cocktail – Ginebra a Fresas

posted in: Drinks Recipes | 0

Larios Gin is by far Spain’s most popular, and in 2016, they created Larios Rose (or Rosé) a strawberry infused variation with a pink colour and fruity nose. It’s no liqueur though, at full gin strength of 37.5% and without the syrupy mouthfeel of other flavoured gins, its far drier on the palate than you might expect. Here’s just one Larios Rose cocktail for you – Ginebra a Fresas.

Larios Rose in Spain

Larios Rose is super popular in Spain and is generally served with lemon lime soda; 7up or Sprite being the most common. Of course this is pretty sweet! Super easy drinking and refreshing, perfect for sipping as you look out over the sea on a sunny day! While this may be too sweet for the seasoned Gin & Tonic drinker (go for the Larios 12 if you’re a connoisseur) its perfect for those looking to make the move towards Gin from vodka.

As bars take more and more notice of the other aspects of drinks beyond just the spirits and fresh juice, tonic ranges (at least in Gin bars) are becoming larger and larger. Aromatic tonics are available from a large number of producers now including Fever Tree. I think this is the perfect compliment for dryness and complexity.

A lot of bars around the world will squeeze fresh juices but think that one lacklustre post-mix tonic is okay… Even the lowliest of dive bar pubs and nightclubs in the UK would be judged for using such a thing! I’m not saying it can’t be done well on the gun, I’m just saying I’ve never seen it done well. If you know better, please let me know!

If you don’t have aromatic tonic, fear not, a regular tonic and a dash of Angostura Bitters (or other aromatic bitters) will do just fine.

  • 2oz (60ml) Larios Rose Gin
  • 4oz (120ml) Fentimans Tonic Water
  • 1 Dash Angostura Bitters
  • Diced Strawberry Pieces

I’m not sure where the Gin & Tonic goblet (or Copa) glass custom started, but I have a feeling it was in Spain. If you have any history on this, I’d love to know – drop me a tweet at @BartenderHQ on Twitter!
