The Key West Cooler is a great drink for when you want to show off a little more of your mixing skills – there’s nothing too tricky here but the drink will get wows from your guests as it has a great traffic light look, green at the bottom, yellow in the middle and red on top!
I first encountered this drink at Chicago Rock Cafe around 2001 when I was first starting out in bars, and its as popular today as it has ever been. Perfect by the pool on a summers day, family restaurant or a classy nightclub. While the Key West Cooler Cocktail is not exactly a classic, its certainly becoming iconic!
Key West Cooler Ingredients:
- ½oz Midori Melon Liqueur
- ½oz Peach Schnapps
- ½oz Malibu Coconut Rum
- ½oz Vodka
- 1 ½oz Orange Juice
- 1 ½oz Cranberry Juice
How to mix a Key West Cooler
- Fill glass with cubed ice.
- Pour Midori over ice.
- Pour Peach Schnapps, Malibu and Orange Juice into shaker and shake with ice.
- Strain this over the ice and Midori, forming the second layer.
- Pour Vodka and Cranberry Juice into shaker and shake with ice.
- Strain this over the last layer to form the top red layer of the drink.
You will need to pour the last layer slowly to avoid it mixing too much with the middle layer. The harder you shake this the more air will be trapped in the mixture in bubbles, helping it float more easily over the middle layer.
Optionally the Key West Cooler can be garnished with the fruit of your choice, we suggest an orange flag garnish.
