As I mentioned in this week’s podcast on our predictions for 2016 I think Tequila is going to be really big in the UK this year. The El Diablo Cocktail is a great Tequila recipe that even those who’ve had bad experiences in the past (probably with terrible tequila) can enjoy, and as such it can be a great way to reintroduce people to Tequila now that the quality is much better.

I first encountered the El Diablo at TGI Fridays, it was introduced alongside the Russian Spring Punch, English Garden and Bramble many years back and its been my go to tequila recipe since then. The version below is slightly modified from that original but maintains the spirit of the recipe.

El Diablo Cocktail Ingredients

  • 1½oz (45ml) Tequila
  • ½oz (15ml) Creme de Cassis
  • ½oz (15ml) Fresh Lime Juice
  • Top with 2-3oz (60-90ml) Ginger Beer

How to mix the El Diablo Cocktail

Shake the first three ingredients with cubed ice, Strain over fresh ice in a Collins Glass. Top with the Ginger Beer and garnish with a lime wedge.
