The Bumblebee Cocktail is inspired by one of the classic characters of the 80s Transformers series, with a Bumblebee movie in the works as we speak. Our Bumblebee Cocktail takes influence from the name, and, also a recipe I found on SheKnows.com (credit where credit’s due). I knew we’d need honey, but this variation of the Bee’s Knees sounded too good not to try.
G1 Bumblebee was the second Transformer to appear in the original TV series and was originally a Volkswagen Beetle, while in the later films he transforms into a number of generations of the Chevrolet Camaro.
Bumblebee Cocktail Recipe
- 2oz (60ml) The Real McCoy 5 Year Old Rum
- 2 barspoons Honey
- 1oz (30ml) Lime Juice
- 1 fresh egg white
- 2 drops Angostura bitters
The Bumblebee Cocktail name means we had no choice but to go with a drink featuring honey somehow, but the rum option works brilliantly in this. As The Real McCoy doesn’t have added sugar, all the sweetness from the drink comes from the honey, which also adds more flavour than plain syrups.
If you want to use honey in the bar, its easiest to make a 3:1 honey syrup so that it pours more consistently. This will make service much easier and is based on advice from the late Sasha Petraske of Milk & Honey fame.
Bumblebee is set to star in a new Transformers movie in his original G1 form later in 2018. We reviewed the first trailer in our Booze & Bazinga segment on YouTube. If you enjoy our trailer reviews and would like to see more, let me know in the comments!
