Captain America is a Super Soldier, Steve Rogers who was enhanced with Super Serum and Vita Rays to help the Allied war effort in World War Two. He was an adult man during the Second World War but was frozen in ice following a plane crash in the Arctic, only to be revived over 60 years later to join the Avengers Initiative with Nick Fury and his team.

Steve Rogers is known for having old fashioned values and tastes, and given his upbringing in the 1920s and 30s, I had to come up with something that would be great today, whilst having a real connection to his past.

Captain America doesn’t drink often in the comics, though in the Avengers Age of Ultron ‘Thor’s Hammer’ trailer we do see him drinking a beer with the team as they all try to lift Mjölnir (and he comes the closest to succeeding). His super metabolism is said to process alcohol faster than a normal human (in the same way it would clear other toxins from his system) meaning he’d be unlikely to get any buzz from beer, so we’ll have to go stronger to give the Cap the effect.

Captain America Cocktail – Old Fashioned

Captain America Old FashionedThe Old Fashioned is the perfect drink for the Captain, classic, made with American Rye whiskey and as cool as they come.

Serve in a heavy based short glass. I suggest using a sugar syrup as crystallised sugar will not dissolve well in the alcohol, but of course refined white sugar would not have been around in Cap’s day, and the unrefined sugar will add better character. Sazerac Rye has been produced since the 1800s and is now a part of the Buffalo Trace brand, so it would certainly be familiar and in the style of the day.

The Old Fashioned should hit him hard enough to get a bit of the effect before his super metabolism clears it too, so he’ll have a chance to party with the team the next time they save the world!

What would you serve Captain America and why?

Captain America, Steve Rogers, Avengers, Age of Ultron and a bunch of other stuff mentioned here are trademarks of Marvel and/or Disney. I don’t profess to own anything, this is a fan article! If i’m breaking any rules I’ll take it down. I’m not here to upset any lawyers! :)
